Bluebird Quilts & Gallery
Our Story
It was in 2008 that Janet, with the encouragement of her husband Stephen, seized the opportunity to pursue her dream of opening a quilt store. Even though it was early in the recession, what Bluebird Quilts & Gallery offers was so well received that it soon expanded into the adjoining suite to offer more selection and class space.
The welcoming atmosphere provides all the elements to inspire your creativity. The layout may give you a sense of shopping from your own closet; however, with over 2,500 bolts of fabric… That’s a very LARGE CLOSET! We delight in an ever-changing selection, including a well-stocked color wall (to find that perfect color for your project), an impressive array of batiks, various collections such as Tula Pink, and our “Great Wall of Kaffe” (a remarkable display from the Kaffe Fassett Collective). And the venture doesn’t stop there since we love discovering fun patterns, the most useful tools and other accessories to have available for you.
Our knowledgeable staff is prepared to help with pattern selection, color choices, and to answer quilting questions. And our Southern California Location is Freeway close from I-215/91, the I-10, and the SR-60.
While the front of the store may appear small, customers step in and often exclaim “Wow, you have a lot in here!” Come see for yourself!
About the Owner
Janet Bottroff
After learning to keep her hands busy with fiber crafts from her mother, it wasn’t until college that Janet first began quilting. This obviously became more than a hobby for her, and now she brings 45 years of quilting experience to Bluebird Quilts & Gallery. She is accomplished in most all forms of quilting, but is probably best known for her landscape style of watercolor quilts. These are made from 2-inch floral squares of fabric that are sewn together to create the effect of a “painted” landscape scene.
In addition to her beginner through advanced level classes offered at Bluebird Quilts, Janet has taught on Quilt Cruises, is the recipient of numerous awards, and even had her quilt Oriental Theme, hang in the governor’s office in Sacramento, California.
Janet is referred to as the "Bluebird." Her “Tweet-Tweet-Tweet” signature greeting brings a smile to one and all. Her enthusiasm can be infectious as she shares her love of quilting with store visitors and in her classes. She enjoys designing original patterns and projects, of which some are available here exclusively. Students find her classes to be fun and informative, because you’re sure to leave with a new tip, or several!
